Best transfer window ever?

Ronaldo, Kaka, Adebaayor and possibly Eto’o and Ibrahmovich have all made multi million pound moves this summer perhaps crowning it the most exciting transfer period in the history of football.

The merry go round has been set in motion by Barcelona’s dominance in Spain and the emergence of Manchester City as the richest club in the world and at the moment shows no signs of slowing.

With Real failing miserably in both La Liga and the Champions League they finally completed their world record transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo after securing Kaka and following it up with the signature of Karim Benzema.

Gareth Barry’s shock signing for City paved the way for Roque Santa Cruz, Carlos Tevez and Emmanuel Adebayor to move to Eastlands and helped flood the depressed transfer market with new money.

With their wallets bulging Manchester United have bought in Luis Antonio Valencia, Michael Owen and Gabriel Obertan and – although they insist they have completed their spending – could still bring in one or two big names.

Arsenal had already splashed £10m on Thomas Vermaelen before receiving £25m for Adebayor, which could see Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh make his way to the Emirates.

The transfer market has been active that a number of what could have beenhigh profile signings have almost gone unnoticed.

Glen Johnson’s move to Liverpool has failed to stir up interest – despite the fact that he is England’s best right back – and Stewart Downing’s £12m move to Aston Villa was barely mentioned on the backpages.

The best part, however, is that is there so much more to come.

Chelsea have yet to sign a big player and could yet move for a marquee signing, while there are dozens of top players with a question mark over their future.

John Terry, Sameul Eto’o, Zlatan Ibrhamovic, Xabi Alonso, Javier Macherano, Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Wesley Sneijder, Patrick Vieira, Ricardo Carvalho and Deco could all still make the headlines before the window closes next month.

Roll on next season!
